For years, you have been notifying potential tenants of the presence of lead-based paint and lead-based paint hazards in pre-1978 housing. Now, the EPA has issued a new rule relating to lead paint that also affects landlords. This Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP) require the use of lead-safe practices and other actions aimed at preventing lead poisoning.
If you are going to be doing such work in-house, then you must not only provide the pamphlet, and document the compliance, you must also be certified and follow the lead-safe work practices required by the RRP. To become certified, property owners must submit an application for firm certification and fee payment to the EPA.
Please join LELA on Tuesday, July 6th, at 7 p.m., for our monthly meeting. Our meeting topic will provide you with information on New Certification for Lead Abatement, Requirement of the Program, and Basic Outline of the Certification Process.
